Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is a procedure to remove the lens of your eye and, in most cases, replace it with an artificial lens. Cataract surgery is used to treat the clouding of the normally clear lens of your eye (cataract).

Retinal Detachment Surgery

The aim of Retinal Detachment Surgery is to reattach the retina in order to prevent or reverse vision loss. We successfully treat retinal detachments mostly through vitreous retinal surgery.

Vitreoretinal Surgery

Vitreoretinal surgery is the treatment of disorders related to the retina, vitreous and macula. Our ophthalmic surgeons use specialised techniques, instruments and solutions to treat conditions that include retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and uveitis. Retinal and vitreous problems can cause severe loss of vision and even blindness. In some cases, surgery may be beneficial – if done at the right time – might prevent severe loss of vision.

Laser Surgery

LASIK
LASIK, which stands for laser in-situ keratomileusis, is surgery used to correct vision in patients who are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. All laser vision correction surgeries work by reshaping the cornea, the clear front part of the eye, so that light traveling through it is properly focused onto the retina located in the back of the eye.
LASEK
Laser epithelial keratomileusis, or LASEK, combines benefits of the two most commonly performed procedures — LASIK and PRK. LASEK eye surgery is used to treat astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. We may recommend LASEK surgery if you have thinner corneas.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma treatment usually starts with medication and surgery is the last resort. Surgery reduces the pressure in the eyes by opening blocked drainage angles or creating a new opening that fluid can flow through to leave the eye. In some cases surgery may be done to relieve pain caused by glaucoma.

Strabismus Corrective Surgery

Also known as crossed eyes, strabismus surgery is performed to strengthen or weaken the effect of one or more of the muscles that move the eye. The procedure is ideally performed during childhood.

Eyelid & Tear duct surgery

We do various types of eyelid surgery which include removal of excess skin from the eyelids, cyst removal etc. Surgery to unblock blocked tear ducts or using punctal plugs to slow the excessive outflow of tear fluid.

Eye Trauma Surgery

The causes of eye trauma vary greatly, but usually results in ruptured globes and corneal lacerations requiring surgical reconstruction. The Cape Eye Hospital’s surgeons are experienced in treating all injuries resulting from ocular trauma.

Cosmetic Surgery

Includes all forms of Oculoplastic surgical procedures.

Specialist Diagnostic Examination

The Cape Eye Hospital has a diverse range of specialist diagnostic technology, which is used to assist our surgeons in providing the most accurate diagnosis possible.

Orthoptist

An orthoptist is a healthcare professional who works in conjunction with an Ophthalmologist in the diagnosis, evaluation and non surgical treatment of strabismus (squint), diplopia (double vision) and amblyopia (reduced vision caused by abnormal visual development in early life).
